A 10-year bilateral security agreement signed between Joe Biden and Zelensky against the backdrop of the G7 adds a positive impetus to the battered morale of Ukraine, which was unsuccessful in its counteroffensive, and Russia, which gained meager land. However, optimism still prevails due to the US aid to Ukraine passed in the House and the US allowing Ukraine to shoot American-made missiles into Russian territory—demands Ukraine has had since the beginning of the war. All these steps are vital for the stalemate to continue; they bring forth no change in terms of how the two sides stand in terms of their caliber to make significant gains. The Russian winter will be harsh for both sides; the endeavor of both is to not lose more than what we have already lost—for Russia, its manpower; for Ukraine, its sovereignty.
