Exactly one day is left before the EVM machines open—the largest democratic exercise this world has ever seen in its existence, with more than 968 million electors, or 70% of the 1.4 billion people. Whatever the results, the election has proven that India still has democratic tendencies in her—even if it has institutionally demoralized, her people are keeping the ethos alive, guaranteeing her existence in a society where debate is still followed, and reproach of the ruling dispensation is still voiced. As per exit polls, the opposition may garner 40% of the vote, exemplifying dissent: 4 in 10 do not subscribe to the RSS-led ideology and governance mechanisms. The aforementioned notion should signal a sign of hope in a tunnel of darkness.
