Power, what are you? In a literal sense, you provide the means to control people or things; it is something many aspire to possess, even if they personally deny it (‘I resent power!’). Even the most egalitarian individuals may find enjoyment in it when it is within their grasp. However, the essential aspect is its application—is it executed with the same resolve and conviction with which it is glorified by you and your adherents? Or is it merely to harvest personal benefits without a modicum of accountability? Once seated in power, you are confined to its boundaries and blind to anything beyond protecting your trivial significance to the world (forgetting the engine behind your force). The misuse of power and misappropriation of authority have proven detrimental to all who are subordinate to you; you have not only eroded basic dignity but also hindered the mechanism for the average person to ascend to the echelons of power. Your existence has been prolonged only because people have been mired by your tactics to deviate from your misdeeds. You will persist indefinitely. It is crucial to have a decision-maker, but will there be a change for the better?”

“A fondness for power is implanted in most men, and it is natural to abuse it when acquired.”

Alexander Hamilton
